Barcelona will not forget the humiliating defeat against Bayern Munich on Friday night, to make a horrible exit from the Champions League. The Spanish Club had previously lost to Bundesliga Champions in 2015 but the defeat in 2020 will give them nightmares until the next season. Even the future of the many Barca players is in doubt ahead of the next season of La Liga.
Bayern Munich showed a remarkable show against La Liga runner up in the Champions League quarter-final encounter. The German Giants had never expected an 8-2 victory against Barcelona.
Bayern Munich took the lead courtesy of Thomas Muller strike in the fourth minute. An unfortunate David Alaba's own goal helped Barcelona to level the score. After this equalizer, Barcelona went in a comma as the Bavarians put a clear statement with pure dominance. Muller strike again in the first half and he got the support from Ivan Perisic and Serge Gnabry. At the end of the first half, Bayern went ahead in the game with 4-1. Barcelona conceded 4 goals in the first half of a Champions League match for the first time.
Luis Suarez came out as a survivor in the 57th minute to give some hope to Barcelona but the German outfit didn’t take time to respond and Joshua Kimmich netted the 5th goal of Bayern Munich.
When the goals were flowing from Bayern Munich, the leading scorer in the league Robert Lewandowski took the advantage against the hopeless Barca side and scored Bayern’s 6th goal.
The humiliation continues as on-loan Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho netted twice as a substitute to make the score 8-2.
Bayern Munich will now face either Manchester City or Lyon in the semifinals and with this dominant performance, Bavarians are the strong favourites to lift Champions League title after 2013. Barca manager Quique Setien has been also sacked after the poor show in La Liga and Champions League this season.
