Team Preview

Australia and Bangladesh will meet in the fourth T20I of the series today. Bangladesh created history last night by beating Aussies for the third time and clinched the series. Bangladesh has changed the story of this 5-match T20I series and hosts surprised everyone by clinching the series in the first three games. With disciplined bowling and mature batting, Bangladesh also won the third game. Australia lost just 4 wickets in chase and could score just 117. Australia’s top-order mistakes haunted them throughout the series. Bangladesh struggled with batting but they have been top-class with the bowl. They held the nerves in all three games. Mustafizur did a tremendous job. His 19th over was an example of his caliber where Christian couldn’t get a single. This is the first-ever bilateral T20I series win for both sides. Hosts troubled Australia with smart bowling and defended a modest total in yet another game.

Australia have been a poor side in the T20 format and they need to transform the energy for T20 World Cup. They are going through their tough phase in the shorter format of cricket. Australia last won a T20I series in South Africa last year. Since then, they lost against England, India, New Zealand, West Indies, and Bangladesh. Can you believe, out of 19 matches, Australia won only five matches? This is the worst poor run Australia have ever seen in this format.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are making good use of their home advantage. Hosts had never won a T20I bilateral series against top nations and they did in style just before the T20 World Cup. T20 WCC will be played in the sub-continent and Bangladesh can put them ahead in the contenders. They also didn’t have Tamim Iqbal and Rahim but still, we saw some good intent from other players. Aussies would look to win at least one game and Bangladesh would look to take a clean-sweep to make it memorable.

Pitch Report

Dhaka’s surface is ideally a bowling surface now. The surface is getting slower with each game. It provides the balance between bat and ball. 130-140 would be a formidable total on this track.
