Aus-NZ Test clinches the largest-ever crowd record in Australia

80,473 fans turned up at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to attend the rare Boxing Day Test between Australia vs New Zealand. It is the highest-ever Non-Ashes Day 1 attendance for a test match in Australia. New Zealand have been playing their first Boxing Day Test in Australia since 1987 and Cricket Australia chief Kevin Roberts stated that the huge crowd of spectators hints at the popularity of the sport in both countries. Kevin said, "Thanks so much to the Australian and New Zealand fans who made history at the MCG today".

This is the first time more than 80,000 spectators flocked to MCG to catch the action between the Aussies and the Black Caps.
