Asian Cricket Council Postpone Asia Cup to 2023

Amid all the speculations and information about the Asia Cup 2021, Asian Cricket Council has issued a written statement. ACC has officially postponed the tournament for the second successive year. Covid-cases are rising in the sub-continent and ACC believes there is no possibility to host the Asia Cup at this stage. Sri Lanka was supposed to host the tournament but the board already denied any possibility of the Asia Cup in 2021.

ACC states that it would therefore only be feasible for this edition of the tournament to be held in 2023 as there is already an Asia Cup in 2022. Dates for the same will be confirmed in due course. ACC also gave a reason for the packed FTP of all Asian sides so we might see the next Asia Cup in 2023. It will be a 50-over tournament to prepare for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Sri Lanka can host the next Asia Cup as they have the current hosting rights. The last Asia Cup was held in UAE in 2018 and India won it by beating Bangladesh in the final.
