Indian skipper, Virat Kohli after winning the toss elected to bowl first. The decision worked in his favor as Indian bowlers dismissed five West Indies batsmen within the powerplay overs at the score of just 33 runs. After this initial destruction, Kieron Pollard and Carlos Brathwaite stitched 34 runs for the seventh wicket to provide some stability to the innings.
But, after the dismissal of skipper Carlos Brathwaite in the 14th over of the innings, the Caribbean Giants managed to reach only 95 runs in their 20 overs. Except for Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran, no other West Indies batsman reached to the double-figure mark. Kieron Pollard scored runner ball 49 runs while Nicholas Pooran looked good for his 16 balls-20 runs.
For India, debutant Navdeep Saini picked up three wickets in his four overs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped two wickets.
Reacting to the chase, the Indian team didn’t get off to a good start. West Indies left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell showed Shikhar Dhawan the pavilion way in the second over of the innings. Following his dismissal, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added 28 runs for the second wicket before Sunil Narine dismissed Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant back to back in the seventh over of the innings at the score of 32.
At this stage, the match was equally balanced, but due to steady innings by middle-order batsman in the later end of the innings, India won the game comfortably by four wickets with 16 balls remaining. For West Indies Sheldon Cottrell, Sunil Narine and Keemo Paul picked up two wickets each.
