“Gentleman of Cricket,” Dravid turns 46, A look back at the journey of Team India’s prominent Gem

The legendary cricket player Rahul Dravid celebrates his 46th birthday today, and as the player turns a year older, we strive to recreate his journey as a successful cricketer. Recognized as “The Wall” by the Indian Cricket followers the player has had an interesting journey in the cricket world where his hard-hitting performance was a constant fear among opponents. 

Born in the year 1973 in Indore, Dravid completed his from St. Joseph's Boys High School, Bangalore and later on graduated in commerce from St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bangalore. He had interest in playing cricket since initial days of his life & started playing cricket when he was just 12. Dravid’s talent was first noticed by the former cricket player Keki Tarapore when he scored a century for his school team, and from then there was no looking back for the legend. 

Dravid made his debut for the Indian National Cricket Team in the year 1996 against Sri Lanka and scored a whopping 95 which was then the eight highest by an Indian Player at the Lord’s. The player has plenty of records registered under his name in golden letters. 

Rahul Dravid in his over a decade long career scored 13,288 runs at an average of 52.31, 10,889 runs at an average of 39.16 in 164 Tests & 344 ODIs, respectively. There are certain facts about the player that can prove why he is considered “The Wall” or “Mr. Dependable” for Indian Cricket. 

  • Rahul Dravid became the only Non-Australian to have addressed one of the prominent events the “Don Bradman Conference.” 

  • Dravid Played, since the day of his debut for the national team to the year 2005, played 96 consecutive tests, which was then a World Record.

  • Rahul Dravid holds the record for not being dismissed on a duck for record 120 consecutive ODI matches.

  • The only batsmen to be involved in two 300 plus partnerships in ODI's is none other than Rahul Dravid.

  • Dravid holds the record of playing most balls in Test Innings. He has played 31,258 balls in 286 Test Innings, which is the most by any player.

  • No prior captain had beaten South Africa on the home soil, Dravid became the first captain to have defeated the South African team on South African soil.

  • Rahul Dravid has not only played for India, he once represented Scotland too, back in the year 2003.

  • Rahul Dravid is the only Indian who holds the record for scoring Centuries in 4 consecutive innings in Test Cricket.

  • Rahul Dravid was honored with “Padma Shri” and “Padma Bhushan” from the Government of India for his services to Cricket. He was also honored amid the seventh annual Bradman Awards function alongside former Australian player, Glenn McGrath.  

  • “The Wall,” Rahul Dravid is the 5th Indian Player who made it to the ICC Hall of Fame.
