Team Preview
It’s doubleheader day in Hundred Ball 2021 at Trent Bridge. The hosts Trent will take on Southern in the first game of the day.
Trent are a top side and they have a good combination of youth and experience. Joe Root will be the only Test contracted player and will be available for the first two games. Lewis Gregory will lead the side who has been a consistent player for England in white-ball. They have the biggest match-winner Rashid Khan who can create a huge impact in his 20 balls. They have two other overseas players D'Arcy Short, and Marchant de Lange.
The batting unit is pretty strong for Trent despite missing Root later in the tournament. Alex Hales and Dawid Malan will lead the top order. Hales scored 463 runs in Blast and he has been great touch in league cricket. They have Luke Wright and Samit Patel in middle-order. Their local squad is also good with Matt Carter, Tom Moores, Steven Mullaney, Ben Cox, and Sam Cook.
Meanwhile, Southern have good strength in their batting lineup. They have in-from Devon Conway and James Vince. Vince scored a hundred against Pakistan in the ODI series and scored 365 runs at an average of 36.50. Jofra Archer will be the only central contracted Test player and he will be available for the selection despite missing his name in the India series.
Colin de Grandhomme will take the role in middle-order and push him to add the 5th bowling option. They have also included some quality local players like Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan, Danny Briggs, Tymal Mills, Ross Whiteley, and Craig Overton. De Kock will be unavailable for the first two games but he will be back in the opening slot. They have a good balance in their pace and the top-order is strong. They might lack in middle-order. Trent is favourites on paper in tonight’s game.
Pitch Report
Trent Bridge’s track is pretty decent and it adds good balance between bat and ball. The surface is good for batting and we might expect a good score around 13-140.
