Manchester City takes on Lyon in the last quarterfinal of UEFA Champions League 2019-20 in Lisbon.
Team Preview
The Citizens are eying for the second UCL semifinal after defeating perennial winners Real Madrid in the Round of 16 with an aggregate success of 4-2, following the 2-1 victory in the second leg. Pep Guardiola’s lost the Premier League title to Liverpool and made the exit in the FA Cup at the semi-final stage. Champions League is the only trophy, they can aiming for after a disappointing football season. The city is fresh off of three straight victories and lost only one in the last seven outings, which came in the FA Cup semifinal. During this period, the English club conceded only four goals and netted 23 goals which include their top win against Liverpool last month.
After Leipzig's victory over Atletico and Atalanta’s heroics against PSG, City might be prepared against Lyon who knocked out the Italian Champion Juventus in their last round game. Despite a solid effort from Rolando in the last game, Les Gones added a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium thanks to Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir, following a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture. After losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de Ligue final, Lyon Rudi Garcia's men escaped the huddle of Serie A Champion in the Round of 16 and they are also aware of the ongoing trend in the league after first two quarterfinals.
Lyon can take inspiration from German Club Leipzig who made into the maiden UCL semifinal. It will be the first appearance for French Club in Champions League quarter-finals since 2009-10. The winner of this game will face the dangerous Bayern Munich who humiliated Barcelona 8-2 in the last quarterfinal game on Friday.
