Corona the outbreak has postponed all the major cricket events this year including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. In July, the UK resumed their home season with West Indies and their County Season has also started prior to the T20 Blast 2020. New Zealand is now also looking forward to starting their home season as per the time. The Australian continent-country has been one of the most successful countries who had controlled the virus and didn’t record a single case from more than 100 days.
New Zealand Cricket is now fully set to resume international cricket in their home summer with men’s tour by Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, and Bangladesh. Australia Women’s team is also expected to tour New Zealand this summer. ICC had already postponed the Women’s ODI World Cup to 2021 which was scheduled to start in February 2020.
The Cricket board will follow the same security reasons as per the government guidelines. All touring sides have to isolate themselves for 14 days on arrival. The NZC CEO, David White said that they are also following a similar approach used by the ECB during the home season.
"We are making tremendous progress. I was just on the phone to the West Indies, they're confirmed, Pakistan is confirmed, Australia and Bangladesh… so 37 days of international cricket," he stated during the talk with reporters in Auckland.
"The White Ferns will tour Australia in September and then the Australia Women's team will tour New Zealand in February. We are just working through the content but probably five ODIs and three T20Is. We'll just be held up for a week or two while we work with the government agencies on the managed isolation but they've been extremely supportive."
West Indies and Pakistan’s Test series are in the pending file which comes under ICC World Test Championship. With Bangladesh and Australia, New Zealand is supposed to play limited-overs series.
Kiwis’ last international assignment was in March against Australia in the behind-closed-doors and the series was called off as WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Men’s team will wait for December but the Women’s team will start their preparation with a tour to Australia in September that includes three T20Is and three ODIs.
