Five Indian cricketers who retired without Farewell
-
V. Sehwag
The former India opening batter was part of World T20 Cup 2007 and 50-over World Cup 2011 winning teams. Even though he didn’t do well in T20Is (averaging 21.88), he did extremely well in Tests (49.34) and ODIs (35.05). However, after the ODI World Cup win 13 years back, the right-hander’s batting went down. So much so that he was dropped from all formats towards the first quarter of 2013.
After this, the Delhi-born never played for India even though he continued to play domestic cricket and Indian T20 League. Few days after turning 37 at the end of 2015, the right-handed player decided to retire from all forms of the game.

S. Dhawan
The Champions Trophy 2013 winner made his debut in 2010. However, before the CT2013, the left-hander played only five ODIs. His career kick started with India’s title winning run in the eight-team tournament. During the tournament, he hit two hundreds and was the highest run-getter in the tournament.
Apart from this, the Delhi player was the highest run getter for the Men In Blue during the team’s semifinal run in the One Day World Cup 2015. Once again, Dhawan was the highest run getter in CT 2017, won by Pakistan. At the end of 2022, the 38-year-old played his last game before being dropped. He never played for the national side again and recently announced his retirement.
-
H. Singh
Famous for India’s memorable win against Australia in Kolkata after following-on, Singh played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 28 T20Is. The former off-spinner is also a World T20 Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011 winner. However, the end of 2011 WC was also the beginning of the end for him.
Like some other players, the right-hander started losing his place in the side. The former Lancashire player missed out on CT2013, World T20 Cup 2014 and 2016, 50-over World Cups in 2015 & 2019. At the end of 2021, Singh retired from all forms of the game and went into broadcasting.

Y. Singh
The left-hander was arguably one of the best white-ball players during the 2000s. The left-hander helped India win the World T20 Cup 2007 and 2011 50-over World Cup. He was the Player of the Tournament in 2011. However, during that tournament, the 42-year-old was dealing with Cancer.
After winning the tournament, the Yorkshire player went for the treatment of the tumor in his lung. Even though he recovered from the disease, his game went downhill and failed to guarantee his place in the team like he used to before. After missing out on the ODI World Cup 2019, Singh decided to retire from the game.

M. Dhoni
The former India skipper is arguably one of the most successful captains in world cricket. He led the Men In Blue to World T20 Cup win in 2007, 50-over World Cup win in 2011 and Champions Trophy win in 2011. Apart from this, he is the first Indian captain to hold the Test Mace.
For those who don’t know, before the World Test Championship, teams who ended up as Number 1 Test towards the end of a certain period, they used to be awarded with Test mace. Meanwhile, after India’s semi final loss in the 50-Over WC in 2019, he stepped away from the game quietly and a year later, announced his retirement from the game.
