Team Preview
After thrilling encounters in the opening week, Hundred Ball Competition is back to another weekday fixture. Trent will stay in Nottingham for their successive home game in Hundred Ball and they will now face Northern tonight. Both sides played out their opening game in Hundred last week.
Trent would look to seal another victory in home game and it would be a great start for them. The hosts were in fine touch when they played against Southern at Trent Bridge. De Lange picked a fifer to claim the best figure in the format and Southern managed to get 126 in 100 balls. After losing Hales on the second ball in the chase, D Archy Short and Malan scored half-centuries to finish the game with 18 balls spare. A 9-wicket win in the first game boosted the morale for Trent.
It will be the last game for Root in Hundred due to his availability in the India series. He was impactful with his bowling. He conceded just 17 runs in his spell and picked one wicket. They are the top side of this competition. Trent also have Rashid and Samit Patel who are masters of shorter formats. Middle-order didn’t get balls but Trent would be optimistic about their players. They might play with the same XI for this game.
Meanwhile, Northern are coming off a disappointing defeat in a high-scoring encounter. It was a run-feat in Leeds when we saw the highest total of Hundred format. Bowling was not in good touch for Northern as Welsh posted 173 on board. Harry Brook’s 31-ball 61 added a big drama in the chase and when he got out, Northern required 37 off 17 balls but they failed to hold the nerves and lost the game by just 5 runs. They had few positives from this game and they would expect the same fire in this game as well but the bowling side would be slightly tougher this time. They struggled against spin which hurt their chase. The Bowling unit was also not in good touch and they allowed Welsh to smash them. It should be a cracker game of Hundred tonight and Trent are favourites.
Pitch Report
Nottingham’s surface is good for batting and it offers good assistance between bat and ball. We should expect 140 odd tonight. Spin might play a bit role in the middle phase of the game.
