Team Preview
Australia and West Indies will meet again in the second game of the ODI series. Aussies proved once again why they are a top side in ODI format. Under Alex Carey, they won the first game in a convincing way.
Australia had good numbers with winning two consecutive series in Super League, and if they win tonight, it will be their third series win in Super League. They previous beat England and India 2-1 in 2020. They lost only two games out of seven. Since the covid outbreak, they lost only two ODIs which shows their dominance. Three players made their ODI debut in the last game and all will be there in playing XI. Aaron Finch might be back in the captain’s role.
Australia made few mistakes in their batting and their batting was tested in the first game. The skipper scored fine 67 and his partnership with Turner proved worthy for Australia. In the last 6 overs, the Aussies couldn’t add many runs despite having wickets in hand but 252 was still a good total. Michell Starc picked a fifer and Hazlewood got three wickets to dismiss West Indies on just 123. Two senior pacers added a huge win over the hosts. Australia would look to see some spark from top-order this time.
Meanwhile, West Indies need to fix out their batting issues in ODI format. They bat like T20 in ODI or sometimes, they look in a hurry while playing this format. Hosts batted poorly and suffered a huge defeat in the first game. The skipper scored a fine half-century but no one stood there. Big names delivered big failure. The Bowling unit was slightly better but they allowed Carey and Turner to settle after disciplined bowling. Pollard now has the big responsibility to take good form in ODIs as well. West Indies need to learn how to enter in ODI format from T20. Hetmyer opened with Lewis which was not a good idea. Shai Hope might be back in XI who missed out the last game. Either Roston Chase or Fabian Allen might feature in the second game.
West Indies played two ODI series this year. They were beaten by Bangladesh 3-0 but later, they whitewashed Sri Lanka at home. It’s an important series for the hosts. Australia are again favourites but West Indies may bounce back.
Pitch Report
Barbados’s surface is good for batting but it will test the batsmen due to its sluggish behavior. 270-280 would be a good total on this track.
