England Cricket Board has announced its 15-member team for the upcoming World Cup slated to be held in England from May 30. Eoin Morgan has been given the responsibility to take charge of the team while Jos Buttler has been named in the squad as the wicket-keeper batsman. The omission of fast bowler, Jofra Archer and inclusion of 33-years old right arm leg spinner came as a surprise. Although Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan have not been included in the World Cup squad.
According to the sources, England’s main selector said that the doors for selection in the World Cup team for both the players (Archer and Jordan) have not been closed yet. If they will perform well in the five-match one-day series against Pakistan before the World Cup, then their name will be re-considered. The one-day series against Pakistan will end on May 19.
Joe Root, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Denly, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are the specialist batsmen named in the squad. Jos Buttler will be seen behind the stumps and in his absence Jonny Bairstow will perform that task. England selectors have chosen four proper all-rounders in the squad. Ben Stokes, David Willey and Chris Woakes are the medium pace all-rounders included in the squad while Moeen Ali is included as a spin all-rounder. Tom Curran, Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid have been given the responsibility to handle the bowling department.
