ICC took a big call in its board meeting regarding the next Women’s T20 World Cup. The next edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup was scheduled to play in South Africa between November 2022. ICC now has pushed back this mega event by three months, and South Africa will now host the T20 World Cup in February 2023.
After the COVID-19 outbreak, ICC has earlier pushed the Women’s ODI World Cup to 2022, scheduled to play in February 2021 in New Zealand. Women’s Cricket will also feature in Commonwealth Games 2022.
2022 is already a busy year for Women’s Cricket due to two big events, so ICC pushed the T20 World Cup to next year. ICC CEO Manu Sawhney said, "Moving the ICC Women's T20 World Cup to 2023 makes perfect sense on a number of levels. Firstly, it will provide a better workload balance for players giving them the best possible opportunity to perform to the highest levels on a global stage".
"Secondly, we can continue to build the momentum around the women's game through 2022 and into 2023. We are committed to fueling the growth of the women's game and today's decision enables us to do that over the longer term."
However, ICC was supposed to take a call on the Under-19 Women’s World Cup, hosted by Bangladesh in January 2021, but the picture looks blurry now due to the COVID-19 second wave.
