Hyderabad lost Bairstow early on duck in the first over. Pandey played some gorgeous shot but couldn’t convert his knock into a big one. Warner was also off the colour, struggling against the pace. Hyderabad faced some big blows in 11th over, losing Warner and Williamson on successive deliveries. They were in deep trouble but something extra-ordinary show occurred from young Abhishek Sharma (31) and Priyam Garg (51). Both players put an outstanding effort against a strong bowling unit. Garg took 22 runs from the Sam Curran’s over. The young duo added 77 runs off just 42 balls to took Hyderabad's sinking boat to a fighting strand of 164.
In the chase, Chennai lost Watson early to Bhuvi and Natarajan scalped Rayudu on a cracker left-arm delivery. Plessis was unfortunate as he got run-out after a short cameo of 22. Abdul Samad picked his maiden wicket to get Jadhav out. Chennai was in deep trouble and the duo Dhoni-Jadeja stood like a wall but the required run-rate was ticking the top chart. Rashid bowled beautifully to concede just 12 from his spell. Jadeja tried to fear Hyderabad with a 35-balls 50. The Indian duo added 72 runs for the 5th wicket but Jadeja’s wicket closed all the door, despite some efforts from Dhoni and Curran at the end. Bhuvi's injury and Dhoni's slight tiredness created some tension till the final over but Hyderabad clinched the thriller by 7 runs.
