Team Preview
Bayern Munich kick starts their Bundesliga 2020-21 campaign for the 9th straight title victory at the Allianz Arena. Last season, they claimed the 8th successive and 30th overall title in Germany’s top flight. They beat Dortmund by 13 points to claim the title in 2019-20. Munich recently lifted the Champions League trophy after beating PSG 1-0 in the final. They are unbeaten since December 2019 in Bundesliga and the winning streak is now thirteen. After playing this encounter after a three-weeks break, Bayern will take on Europa League winners Sevilla on September 24 in UEFA Super Cup. Hansi Flick's side will miss Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho as two have returned to Inter Milan and Barcelona respectively.
Meanwhile, Schalke got the first assignment against the champion side and they would try to put some decent performance to find some positive start after a disappointing campaign in 2019-20. The Royal Blues finished 12th in the last season and the team saw a downfall in the last couple of years after securing 2nd spot in 2017-18. David Wagner's side have already lost their key midfielder Weston McKennie to Juventus so their performance would be relying on their forwards Mark Uth and Amine Harit.
