Team Preview
Southampton takes on Brentford in English League Cup 2nd round to find some positivity ahead of the Week-2 of the Premier League. The Saints who finished high in the previous season suffered a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in the opening Premier League encounter. Wilfried Zaha netted a goal for Palace in the 13th minute assisted by Townsend and Ralph Hasenhuttl's side couldn’t get the equalizer, despite creating more opportunities and passes. Hasenhuttl had a 7-matches winning streak before losing to Eagles on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Brentford also suffered the defeat in their opening Championship tie against Birmingham City. Jeremie’s 37th-minute strike made the whole difference and Brentford couldn’t avoid the defeat in the tournament opener. Thomas Frank’s side had a good season in 2019-20 and failed to get the promotion to Premier League. The Bees had good possession, more passes, and pass accuracy against Birmingham but they failed to convert opportunities in goals.
