7 Indian Players Scored Most Runs in World T20 Cup

India is the first champion of the World T20 Cup’s history. In the first edition in 2007, they beat arch-rivals, Pakistan to lift the title. Since then, they played only one more final, i.e in 2014, losing to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, over the years, there have been batters who have contributed massively for the team.   1. V. Kohli

The former India captain, despite making his debut in the World T20 Cup as late as 2012, he is still the highest run getter. He has played 27 games and has 1141 runs to his name, averaging 81.50 including 14 fifties. Kohli will also be part of the upcoming 2024 edition.

  1. R. Sharma

The India skipper is the only player in the team who was part of the 2007 team and will play in the upcoming edition too. Sharma has played 39 games and has 963 runs to his name, averaging 34.39 including nine fifties. After M.S. Dhoni, Sharma is the second player to lead India in more than one World T20 Cup. 

3. Y. Singh

One of the heroes of the 2007 winning team, Singh has played 31 games between 2007 and 2016. During this period, the left-hander hit 593 runs, averaging 23.72 including four fifties. He scored two fifties in the 200 campaign itself. 

  1. M. Dhoni

He is the only player to lead a team in six World T20 Cups across the globe. Between 2007 and 2016, the wicketkeeper batter played 33 games, leading the team in all the games. The right-hander smashed 529 runs, averaging 35.26 with no fifties. 

  1. G. Gambhir 

Another hero of 2007, Gambhir played four World T20 Cups between 2007 and 2012. The opening batter played 21 games and has 524 runs averaging 26.20 including four fifties. His best campaign as a batter was in 2007 with 227 runs in six innings. 

  1. S. Raina

He is the first India player to score a hundred in T20I matches. Between 2009 to 2016, he played 26 games and has 453 runs to his name averaging 25.16 including a hundred in 2010.

7. K. Rahul

The former T20I opening batter played in the 2021 and 2022 editions. In 11 games, the right-hander hit 322 runs averaging 32.20 including five fifties. Currently, he is out of the T20I team.
